Florida's Home Education Act -
How to Comply in Citrus County

  • Approximately 60 percent of families in Florida who home educate their children do so under the Home Education Act of 1985. That law was revised in the 1998 legislative session. The following is a simplified version of what your responsibilities are if you choose to home school under this option. Please take the time to read the actual text of the Home Education Act.

Note: This section of the handbook does not attempt to address home schooling your children under the private school option. These schools are known by their state statute numbers 607, 617, and 623. Contact information for local 617-623 schools can be found in here.
